Weird and Wonderful Puppy & Kitten Names
Every January, we pounce into the New Year by publishing the top ten most popular cat names and dog names from the previous year.
Of course, we think it’s time to scamper over to the other end of the spectrum and pick out the more unique, weird and wonderful puppy and kitten names that have recently caught our eye. Here’s our top picks from January 2021. Perhaps you’re on the look-out for something a little different, so why not take a peek?
Disney pet names
Ever popular, The Lion King main character names continue to reign in our popular pet names charts for a number of years now. From Disney princesses to magical fairies to cool tigers with boundless energy and loveable jungle bears, here’s a list of Disney-inspired pet names:
Aurora (Sleeping Beauty); Bambi (Bambi); Baloo (The Jungle Book); Nala and Simba (The Lion King); Tigger (Winnie the Pooh); Tinkerbell (Peter Pan).
Beautiful names with special meanings
We love these names chosen by puppy and kitten owners who have visited one of our CVS veterinary practices during January. What a way to start 2021 with a new furry friend with a name that has a special meaning behind it like these ones.
Bisous – meaning ‘kisses’; Bodhi – meaning ‘enlightenment’; Dharma – Universal laws of nature (Hinduism); Enfys – Means ‘rainbow’ (Welsh).
Fictional character inspired pet names
We think it’s fair to say that, having spent a lot of time indoors in the past year, new pet owners have had plenty of time to get pet name inspiration from video games, TV box sets, programmes and movies.
With pet names connected to kids shows such as Sesame Street and Scooby Doo and feature films including Pirates of the Caribbean and Beetle Juice, the screen gave us plenty of ideas for naming January’s puppies and kittens.
Arya (Game of Thrones); Aslan (Chronicles of Narnia); Atticus (To Kill a Mockingbird); Beetle Juice (Beetle Juice); Boycie (Only Fools and Horses); Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Carribean); Cookie Monster and Elmo (Sesame Street); Ezio (Assassin’s Creed); Scooby (Scooby-Doo); Thor (Marvel).
Unique pet names
We love the quirkiness of some of the unique puppy and kitten names that have popped up from January’s list. It must make their human’s life quite interesting when it comes to calling them back in from the outdoors!
Donut Lord; Fizzy-Sparkle; Fredrick Humbug; Lasagne; Meowzalat; Quarantine.
